The old Blacksburg Middle School (OBMS) building was demolished during the summer of 2011 to ready the site for future development. The County and Town completed the Master Plan in June 2011, which will guide future development and rezoning of the property. More details about the Master Plan are available on the Town of Blacksburg website.
OBMS, 501 South Main St., Blacksburg, ceased usage as a school at the end of the 2002-2003 school year. Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) then shut down the 1950s-era building and students were transferred to a new middle school in Price's Fork.
The Board of Supervisors took ownership of the building and 20 acres of land in spring 2010 when the School Board deeded the property to the County as surplus. Two local companies, Modea and Fiddler's Green Partners, are currently pursuing rezoning the property for offices and residential usage. Any proceeds from the sale of the property will go toward school capital construction.
